Meghan Markle Deletes All Social Media Accounts Ahead of Royal Wedding

BRITAIN-ROYALSApparently princesses don't tweet -- and Meghan Markle has officially deleted all of her social media accounts ahead of her upcoming wedding to England's Prince Harry.

The move was noticed by several media outlets this week, and confirmed in a statement Tuesday from Kensington Palace, which represents the royal family.

"Ms. Markle is grateful to everyone who has followed her social media accounts over the years," the palace statement said. "However as she has not used them for some time she has taken the decision to close them."

Though the former actress -- who has officially given up the business following her high-profile engagement -- had previously been quite active on sites like Twitter and Instagram, her last post on the latter came way back in April of 2017. Plus, it's apparently an unspoken rule among the royal family that you don't keep personal social media accounts.

People reports:

Although in recent years, the royal family has gotten on board with the use of social media in an official sense — Kensington Palace, Clarence House and The Royal Family all have Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts that they use to share updates on members of the family. It's where Prince George and Princess Charlotte's births were first announced, and just yesterday, when they shared photos of Charlotte ahead of her first day of preschool. But very few senior British royals have social media accounts of their own, so Meghan would have been quite the outlier had she kept hers up and running.

Markle, who starred on USA drama "Suits" for seven seasons, and Harry began dating in 2016, and announced their engagement late last year. They will wed in a ceremony at Windsor Castle on May 19.
