"Mom and Dad"
Heeeeere's Daddy! You'll feel better about your own parents after watching this pitch-black horror comedy, which is available in select theaters and on VOD and Digital HD this Friday, January 19.
Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair star as homicidal suburban parents to a teen and her younger brother, as a worldwide outbreak of mass hysteria turns parents violently against their own kids for a brutal 24 hours. It's like a parental version of The Purge. Anne Winters, Zackary Arthur, Lance Henriksen, Robert Cunningham, Olivia Crocicchia, Rachel Melvin, Samantha Lemole, Joseph D. Reitman, and Marilyn Dodds Frank costar in the movie, written and directed by Brian Taylor.
"Geostorm"
When disaster strikes, better call Saul Gerard Butler, since this is his genre sweet spot. An attempt to control the global climate backfires (like in "Snowpiercer") in this action thriller costarring Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Alexandra Maria Lara, and Daniel Wu. The digital version comes out this Tuesday, Jan. 16, just a week before the Blu-ray and DVD on January 23. The discs come with three behind-the-scenes making-of featurettes.
"Just Add Magic" Season 2B (Amazon Original)
This family friendly Amazon Original Series continues into part two, arriving January 19, following Kelly, Hannah and Darbie as they race to identify who is cursing the town and destroying all of the magical spices, and erasing everyone's memories of magic.

"Blade Runner 2049"Never mind what Ridley Scott said about this movie (which he actually produced). You can see for yourself this Tuesday, January 16 when director Denis Villeneuve's "Blade Runner" sequel arrives on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, or DVD. "Crooked House"
An all-star cast, led by Glenn Close, brings this Agatha Christie mystery to life on Blu-ray and DVD on January 16. Terence Stamp, Gillian Anderson, Max Irons, Stefanie Martini, and Christina Hendricks costar in the crime drama. The Blu-ray goes behind-the-scenes with three making-of featurettes while the DVD includes two of the featurettes.

Friends, who's got your back in a tight spot? It's Slippin' Jimmy, but not for long. Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) is *thisclose* to becoming Saul Goodman full time, and you can watch his transformation play out over Season 3, which arrives on DVD and Blu-ray this Tuesday, Jan. 16. Extras include cast and crew commentaries for all 10 episodes, a gag reel, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and the "Los Pollos Hermanos Employee Training" videos. Season 4 only just started filming so it may be a while before we see it on AMC.
"Loving Vincent"
This critically acclaimed biodrama about painter Vincent van Gogh's life, and the circumstances of his death, arrives on DVD this Tuesday. The top-tier cast includes this year's awards season darling, Saoirse Ronan, along with Aidan Turner, Douglas Booth, Jerome Flynn, Chris O'Dowd, Helen McCrory, Eleanor Tomlinson, and Robert Gulaczyk.
"Happy Death Day"
If your tastes are a little less highbrow, that's cool. This horror thriller is like a birthday/deathday version of "Groundhog Day," and you can watch it on Blu-ray, DVD, or On Demand this Tuesday, Jan. 16. Bonus features include an alternate ending, which should be worth seeing. There are also deleted scenes and making-of featurettes with the cast and filmmakers.

TV Worth Watching
"Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story" (Wednesday on FX at 10 p.m.)The Versace family is not happy about this new season of FX's true crime anthology, but you know that probably means it's extra juicy. See for yourself starting January 17 with Episode 1, "The Man Who Would Be Vogue." "The murder of Gianni Versace turns the eyes of the world onto Miami Beach." Penelope Cruz stars as Donatella Versace, with Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace, Ricky Martin as Antonio D'Amico, and Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan.
"Black Lightning" (Tuesday on The CW at 9 p.m.)
It's a big week for CW show returns -- including "Supergirl," "The Flash," "Supernatural," "Arrow," and "Riverdale." After "The Flash," fans also get the premiere of "Black Lightning." This superhero show is not part of the Arrowverse, but you never know what crossovers they may do in the future. The January 16 premiere is called "The Resurrection":
"Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Ann McClain), and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe-haven for young people in a neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero in his community. "Grey's Anatomy" Season 14 (Thursday on ABC at 8 p.m.)
TGIT is back this week, starting with "Grey's" midseason premiere, followed by "Scandal" and "How to Get Away With Murder." The "Grey's" return is meant to pick up directly from the hospital hacking drama of the midseason finale, and go deep into Jo's domestic abuse fight with her ex (played by the dastardly Matthew Morrison. By the way, the premiere title was changed from "Four Seasons in One Day" to a phone number: "1-800-799-7233."
"Screen Actors Guild Awards" (Sunday on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m.)
This year's SAG Awards will be hosted by Kristen Bell and feature all-female presenters. Here's the full list of nominees. And here's hoping for more great speeches, and at least one Winona moment.
"Frontline's Rape on the Night Shift" (Tuesday on PBS at 10 p.m.)
On Tuesday, "Frontline" airs an updated version of its groundbreaking 2015 investigation revealing sexual abuse in the janitorial industry. "Rape on the Night Shift" found that immigrant women working as janitors are particularly vulnerable to sexual violence, and that many are afraid to come forward about abuse out of fear they'll lose their jobs or be deported.
"Godzilla" (Netflix Original)The first animated Godzilla movie -- and the start of a new trilogy -- premiered in Japan in November and releases worldwide this Wednesday, January 17 on Netflix. The Toho Animation movie, alternately called "Godzilla: Monster Planet" or "Godzilla: Planet of Monsters," has this synopsis from Netflix: "A desperate group of refugees attempts to recolonize Earth 20,000 years after Godzilla took over. But one young man wants revenge above all else." Check out the trailer.
"The Open House" (Netflix Original)
Dylan Minnette and Piercey Dalton star as a teen and his mother who, after a tragedy, move to a relative's vacant vacation home. Turns out, it's not that serene. Eerie and unexplained forces start conspiring against them, and you can watch them in action this Friday, January 19 when the horror thriller starts streaming on Netflix. Jane Fonda (Grace) and Lily Tomlin (Frankie) return for their fourth season this Friday, January 19 on Netflix. As you can see in the trailer below, "Friends" alum Lisa Kudrow joins the party as Grace's long-time manicurist buddy Sheree."Unrest"
This powerful, acclaimed documentary by Jennifer Brea -- available on Netflix January 15 -- tells the story of how Brea and her husband grappled with the sudden onset of her mysterious disease:
