'Gilmore Girls' Revival Cut This Big Scene After Netflix 'Took Money Away'

Pop quiz, hot shot: If you had to pick one sequence from Netflix's "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" to cut short, what would it be? The Stars Hollow musical? Life and Death Brigade? Return to Chilton? "Wild" hiking trip? Luke and Lorelai's big wedding?

Would you really have picked the "big wedding"? 'Cause that's what got chopped.

They say necessity is the mother of invention, and when Netflix made it necessary for the "Gilmore Girls" revival producers to rethink their epic wedding plans, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino invented a brilliant solution. It may even qualify as a blessing in disguise. (But don't tell Netflix that or they'll cut everyone's budgets.)

"The wedding was originally a much bigger deal," Sherman-Palladino told TVLine. "The wedding was a whole shebang. And then they took money away from us. Anything that has extras in it and costumes became a production nightmare. So we had to figure out how to make this wedding satisfying without doing 'The Big Wedding.'"

However, she allowed that maybe the "intimate" wedding was better anyway. "In paring all of the bells and whistles away, we get down to the crux of really what it is: It's Luke, Lorelai and Rory. And that made it intimate and gave it more feeling."

Agreed. It was surprising to watch "Fall" play out and not see the big wedding, but it turned out to look and feel just about right. That said, it would've been cool to follow that perfectly intimate wedding with a big Stars Hollow event, with the entire cast from Sookie and Michel to Paris and Jess. They could've cut the musical for that.
