Since the show is a "Breaking Bad" prequel, and we never see Jimmy McGill's (Bob Odenkirk) brother in "Breaking Bad," it stands to reason Chuck will exit stage right at some point. But what happens with Chuck in the meantime?
We know "Breaking Bad" Los Pollos boss/badass Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) is entering the picture very soon in "Better Call Saul" Season 3, but it sounds like Chuck won't have any interaction with him. He could've -- that actually might've been interesting, since they both seem so uptight but also know how to be ruthless -- but McKean was at a Los Pollos Hermanos pop-up in New York City to promote the premiere of Season 3, and he admitted Chuck had no connection to that world.
"My character never interacts with anybody in this building, or anybody in this part of the world," McKean told TV Guide at the pop-up Los Pollos. "I mean, part of that is the fact that I've been pretty much housebound. But also his character probably wouldn't eat here, and he certainly wouldn't score meth here."
Chuck scoring meth -- now that's a picture. (He'd make Ernesto do it, you know he would.) So what is next for Chuck?
"Well, I can't get too specific. I will say this. It is proven to him that maybe he can't do it alone. You can disagree with him, you can root for Jimmy all you want, but Chuck has his point. If you removed the revenge element from his psyche, which is fairly large, I think you'd actually find a human being in there. But don't get too attached."
Don't get too attached. Chuck isn't exactly the most popular guy, but we are pretty attached to the brilliant Michael McKean. How will Chuck leave the story? Will he just cut off ties with Jimmy, when Jimmy eventually drops his original name and becomes Saul Goodman, or will something more sinister (or just sad) happen?
"Better Call Saul" Season 3 premiered Episode 1 on April 10, and Episode 2, "Witness," airs Monday, April 17 at 10 p.m. on AMC. Here's the synopsis: "Jimmy and Kim hire an assistant; Mike seeks out a mysterious acquaintance; Chuck uses the law to gain an advantage over Jimmy."
