The Captain Marvel movie has (finally) found a director. Two, actually.
Variety reports that "Mississippi Grind" directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will helm the film, which stars Brie Larson in the titular role.
The script comes from "Inside Out" scribe Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman ("Guardians of the Galaxy"). Danvers is also expected to appear in one (or both) of Marvel's upcoming "Infinity War" films.
The plot will center on a version of Danvers' origin story. She is an Air Force pilot who, after suffering an accident, has her DNA fused with an alien. She soon finds herself with a very unique (and awesome) powerset -- including the ability to fly and project energy from her hands, making her one of the strongest heroes in the MCU. At a recent Marvel event, reporters saw production art from the film, the highlight of which featured Larson's character, Carol Danvers, mid-fight with giant robot things.
Prior to this, the filmmakers were best known for Ryan Gosling's indie drama "Half Nelson." According to Variety, the duo met with Marvel Studios execs and Kevin Feige several times, impressing the powers-at-be with their "vision for the heroine." Marvel also considered Boden and Fleck's experience in both TV and film as an added bonus.
"Captain Marvel" hits theaters March 8, 2019.
