'Once Upon a Time': Emma Will Give Gideon a Chance, for Belle

Belle (Emilie de Ravin) always wants to believe the best of everyone on "Once Upon a Time," and that goes tenfold for her son, Gideon (Giles Matthey). Yeah, Gideon wants to kill Emma (Jennifer Morrison) because she's the Savior and it's part of his plan to take down the Black Fairy, but -- honestly -- how much worse is that than a lot of the stuff Rumple/Gold (Robert Carlyle) has done?

Because Emma cares about Belle, Jennifer Morrison said her character will try to keep an open mind about Gideon.

The two will have to team up to save Hook (Colin O'Donoghue), and ABC's photos for this Sunday's April 9 episode, "Mother's Little Helper," show the two in their uneasy alliance.

Jennifer Morrison told Entertainment Weekly that Emma's team-up with Gideon is like Emma working with Gold, someone she knows could turn on her at any moment:

"She treats Gideon very similarly to that and wants to believe the best in him because she sees the yearning in Belle to believe that her son isn't irredeemable. Emma wants to believe that along with Belle, so she's willing to give him a chance to prove that he's not the villain that he seems to be."

On that note, Entertainment Tonight shared a sneak peek scene of this Sunday's episode, featuring Emma and Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) storming into Gold's shop for information.

Gold reveals that the Black Fairy is his mother, and Belle says Gideon was not born evil, he was made that way by the Black Fairy. The parents make an argument to Emma to work with Gideon to try and stop the Black Fairy before she brings far worse evil to their world:

Here's ABC's synopsis for Season 6, Episode 16, "Mother's Little Helper":

"Gold and Belle convince Emma to help Gideon, explaining that together they can stop the Black Fairy. Henry experiences a disorienting shift in his powers that forces Regina to seek counsel from the previous Author. Meanwhile, in Fairy Tale Land, Hook attempts to win the assistance of an old adversary by betting his most prized possession on a game of cards. And, in a flashback, the Black Fairy tortures young Gideon in hopes of molding him into the perfect apprentice."

OUAT Season 6 airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
