"The Walking Dead" Season 7 just ended ... right when things were finally getting started. Season 8 will start shooting pretty soon, so it's not too early to get scoop on what's ahead.
TVLine got some mini Season 8 spoilers from showrunner Scott M. Gimple, one on both Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan), and the other on Eugene (Josh McDermitt).
GLEGGIE
A fan asked if we'd see Glenn again, since we just saw Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) in a flashback after he died, and Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) also returned after death. Gimple's answer gave a hint on the timeline of Maggie's pregnancy.
As Maggie gets closer to giving birth, it's "certainly possible," Gimple said, that Steven Yeun might return for some new flashbacks or a vision, etc. "I'd be silly to say it isn't." But fans expecting a Spirit Glenn return around the birth of his child may want to grab a snack for the wait. "[Maggie] might not be that close. Things have been moving pretty quickly, but not a lot of time has passed."
So while there might be a time jump after Season 8, we shouldn't expect one going into Season 8, and Maggie is still pretty early in her pregnancy. Will we get to see the birth on screen, whether it's in Season 8 or Season 9, or will they time-jump that part and just show us the baby? Maggie still doesn't have a doctor, now that Dr. Carson is at the Sanctuary, so it's possible she could be in for a birth as traumatic as Lori's delivery of Judith. Hey, remember who got that baby out?
EUGENE = NEGAN?
The other tease has to do with what Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) said to Eugene, shortly before she gave her life to try and take out Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan): That she wasn't giving up on him. Gimple told TVLine, that's "a hint to what the story is" in Season 8. "It certainly looked like he was still a Savior. But is that going to haunt him... change him? Or is he forever Negan?"
The Season 7 finale ended with Eugene standing behind Negan as the boss said, "We are going to war." But that was right after a tense conversation between the two on those pills Sasha used to kill herself. Negan suspects Eugene, but Mullet Man tried to cover and say she died from lack of air. He's already trying to play both sides, and that's what we're hoping to see more of in Season 8. Eugene can make bullets, so he's too valuable to just kill off, but Negan also can't afford to let him defect back to Alexandria. He should have a major role to play in the All Out War ahead.
