New on DVD and Blu-ray

"Split"
Writer/director/twist-titan M. Night Shyamalan's psychological thriller arrives on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand April 18. The James McAvoy acting showcase comes with some solid extras on disc, including an alternate ending, deleted scenes, "The Making of Split," "The Many Faces of James McAvoy," and "The Filmmaker's Eye: M. Night Shyamalan."

"The Founder"
This bio drama on the founder(s) of McDonald's arrives on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand April 18. Special features include the featurettes "The Story Behind the Story," "Michael Keaton as Ray Kroc," "The McDonald Brothers," and "The Production Design"; plus "Building McDonald's: Time Lapse Video" and a press conference with the filmmakers and cast.

Jamie Foxx plays an undercover homicide detective seeking revenge on his son's kidnappers in this action film, out on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand April 18. Michelle Monaghan, Gabrielle Union, T.I., Dermot Mulroney, David Harbour, and Scoot McNairy co-star. Bonus features include deleted scenes and "One Long Night: The Making of Sleepless."

New Video on Demand, Rental Streaming, and Digital

"Gold"
Matthew McConaughey plays a gold prospector desperate to achieve success, no matter the cost, in this jungle adventure arriving on Digital HD April 18, then on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand May 2. The release comes with several bonus features, including a deleted sequence, commentary by director Stephen Gaghan, and three featurettes: "The Origins of Gold," "The Locations of Gold," and "Matthew McConaughey as Kenny Wells."

Samara returns to "The Ring" franchise in this new chapter, available on Digital HD April 21, and then on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand May 2. The Blu-ray will include more than 45 minutes of bonus content including deleted and extended scenes; an alternate ending; and the featurettes "Terror Comes Full Circle," "Resurrecting the Dead: Bringing Samara Back," and "Scary Scenes."

"Bosch" Season 3 (Amazon)
The Emmy-nominated Amazon original series, based on Michael Connelly's novels, returns April 21. In Season 3, bystanders claim a cop threw a man off a balcony to his death -- and Bosch (Titus Welliver) is a suspect.

"A Dog's Purpose"
A dog's purpose -- much like a human's purpose -- is to love and be loved, but the movie version of "A Dog's Purpose," based on the bestselling novel by W. Bruce Cameron, will be available on Digital HD platforms April 18. After that, it will arrive on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand May 2. Bonus features include deleted scenes, outtakes, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film, and a look at the story behind the novel.

TV Worth Watching

"Fargo" Season 3 (Wednesday on FX at 10 p.m.)
The third season of FX's wonderfully quirky drama is set in 2010, and fans should expect some connections to the first two seasons. Ewan McGregor will be playing two roles -- Emmit and Ray Stussy -- with the rest of the amazing cast including Carrie Coon, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, David Thewlis, Michael Stuhlbarg, Shea Whigham, and Jim Gaffigan. The Season 3 premiere, "The Law of Vacant Places," was written and directed by showrunner Noah Hawley, and has this synopsis: "A petty sibling rivalry between two brothers escalates and brings chaos to a small Minnesotan community."

"Pretty Little Liars" Season 7 (Tuesday on Freeform at 8 p.m.)
It's almost over. The final season of PLL returns April 18, launching the last 10 episodes of the series. Here's the synopsis for Season 7, Episode 11, "Playtime": "Spencer attempts to learn more about her connection to Mary Drake; Aria and Ezra figure out what their future may hold with Nicole back in the picture; Mona helps Hanna get her fashion career back on track; A.D.'s final endgame is revealed."

"Frontline: The Last Days of Solitary" (Tuesday on PBS at 9 p.m. ET)
This searing, two-hour documentary on solitary confinement in America was filmed over the course of three years, exploring what happens when five prisoners who have spent a great deal of time in isolation try to integrate back into society.

New on Netflix

There's a ton of good stuff hitting Netflix this week, from originals to recent movies and TV series worth streaming. Here are just a few offerings.

"Girlboss": Season 1 (Netflix Original)This original series debuts globally on April 21. Here's the synopsis from Netflix:

"'Girlboss' is inspired by the New York Times best-selling book #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso, founder of the fashion brand Nasty Gal. The series centers on Sophia (Britt Robertson), who began selling vintage clothes on eBay and, by the age of 28, had built the multi-million dollar fashion empire, Nasty Gal. 'Girlboss' is created by and executive produced by Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect 1& 2, 30 Rock), who also serves as showrunner. Charlize Theron (Monster, Young Adult) and Laverne McKinnon, of Denver & Delilah, Christian Ditter (How to Be Single) and Sophia Amoruso will also serve as executive producers. Girlboss stars Britt Robertson (Sophia), Ellie Reed (Annie), Alphonso McAuley (Dax), Johnny Simmons (Shane) and Dean Norris (Jay)."

"Tramps" (Netflix Original)
This critically acclaimed romance-heist-comedy debuted at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival, and now Netflix gets to stream it starting April 21. Callum Turner, Grace Van Patten, Michal Vondel, Mike Birbiglia, and Margaret Colin star in the movie about two young strangers pulled into a shady briefcase swap for different reasons; they spend an eventful night together when that deal goes wrong.

"Sand Castle" (Netflix Original)Nicholas Hoult and Henry Cavill lead the star-studded cast of this Iraq war drama, arriving on Netflix April 21. Here's the synopsis:

"Set in Iraq in 2003, 'Sand Castle' follows a group of American soldiers in the early days of the second Gulf War. Bearing witness to the heat and the horror is the inexperienced Private Matt Ocre (Nicholas Hoult), who, together with several fellow soldiers, is ordered to the outskirts of Baqubah to repair a water pumping station damaged by U.S. bombs. But, as Ocre discovers, in an atmosphere where resentment and anger fester, trying to win the hearts and minds of the locals is a task fraught with danger. It's here, in the streets, squares and schools that he discovers the true cost of war. The film stars Nicholas Hoult, Henry Cavill, Glen Powell, Logan Marshall-Green, Beau Knapp, Neil Brown Jr., Parker Sawyers, Sam Spruell, Sammy Sheik, and Tommy Flanagan."

"The Secret Life of Pets"
It's no longer a secret: This animated adventure on what pets do while their human parents are away will be available for Netflix streaming as of April 22.

"Bill Nye Saves the World": Season 1 (Netflix Original)The renowned "science guy" returns, with each new episode of this show tackling a specific topic through panel discussions, correspondent reports, and Bil's own special style of lab procedures. Watch him start saving the world on April 21.

"The Great British Baking Show: Masterclass": Season 1-3
The world's greatest reality show -- don't argue -- is offering these behind-the-scenes classes starting April 22. Watch as Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood demonstrate how to actually make the delicious concoctions shown on what we here in the U.S. call "The Great British Bake Off."
