Brace yourselves for disappointment, Team Jon supporters. "Game of Thrones" star Kit Harington doesn't think Jon Snow will rise higher than King in the North. He doesn't even want to try for King of the Seven Kingdoms.
"Game of Thrones" always has multiple kings and queens floating around, but the ultimate seat is the Iron Throne. Remember when Margaery Tyrell said she didn't want to be *a* queen, she wanted to be *the* queen? But Jon Snow has never chased power, he's just had it handed to him by the people around him, and that's something Harington has always admired.
Harington recently picked up an award at the Giffoni Film Festival in Italy, and answered questions from young festival attendees. One of the topics, The Hollywood Reporter reports, was on Jon's recent rise to power and where he goes from here:
"He never expected it or wanted it. There are so many people in the story who looked to move up. And Jon never looked to move up. That's one of the things I really love about him is that his ambition is less than others, and yet he gets further.
He's gone as high up as he can get. I don't think he'll be king."
THR added that those last words were "much to the dismay of the audience present."
Season 7 has already finished filming, with only Season 8's six episodes remaining to film. How much does Harington know about Jon's end game, and how much of that was a spoiler? He had to be coy about Jon Snow's fate after the Season 5 cliffhanger, but he probably wouldn't lie to the teens present at this festival. But was he just speculating?
We as viewers now know Jon is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, giving him royal blood. But that doesn't change Jon's nature as someone who's just not that into the politics or the subtleties of ruling (or listening to his sister, or outside opinions). He would be miserable in King's Landing.
However, Daenerys Targaryen just arrived at Dragonstone, and she did say she wanted to break the wheel. Fans are expecting Dany and Jon to meet up, and some hoped they'd get together and rule the Seven Kingdoms, from Dragonstone or the North or wherever. Doesn't have to be King's Landing. But Harington is basically hitting the brakes on that, saying this is as far as Jon will go. Is he right?
