'Narcos' Season 3 Gets Release Date, First Teaser

Pablo Escobar may be dead on "Narcos," but when a king goes down, another always rises to take his place.

Netflix announced the premiere date for Season 3 of its crime drama: September 1. Season 2 concluded the bloody manhunt for Escobar (Wagner Moura), but now attention turns to the Cali Cartel. They operate much differently from Escobar, preferring to bribe officials rather than have violence splashed across headlines.

DEA Agent Javier Pena (Pedro Pascal) will pursue these drug kingpins alone, as Boyd Holbrook's Steve Murphy will not be returning in Season 3. The real Murphy left Colombia after catching Escobar.

Netflix also released the first teaser, in which Pena ominously warns, "To pretend these guys weren't just as evil as the guy that came before them — that's a mistake."

"Narcos" was renewed through Season 4, and showrunner Eric Newman told the Hollywood Reporter that he had planned to shift focus to other cartels.

"There's a revolving-door aspect to narco kingpins and we'll certainly exploit that," he said. "From the beginning when we decided to call the show Narcos and not Pablo Escobar, I had always had in mind to tell the continuing story of cocaine."
