Quentin Tarantino's Next Movie Is About the Manson Family Murders

2017 Tribeca Film Festival - 'Reservoir Dogs' 25th Anniversary ScreeningFor his next movie, Quentin Tarantino is tackling one of history's most infamous crime sprees — the Manson Family murders.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Tarantino is putting the final touches on the script, which he plans to also direct. Production would possibly begin in summer 2018.

"Script details are fuzzy but one of the stories centers on Sharon Tate," THR reports. Tate was an actress who was married to director Roman Polanski. Her murder (while eight months pregnant), along with six other people, over two nights in 1969 was ordered by Charles Manson and carried out by several of his cult followers. The killers were all convicted and sent to prison.

Tarantino has reportedly reached out to actors, including longtime collaborator Samuel L. Jackson, Brad Pitt (whom he worked with on "Inglourious Basterds"), Jennifer Lawrence, and Margot Robbie (possibly as Tate).

THR notes that Tarantino would bring a "unique take" to the story — which has been the subject of numerous movies, TV shows, and documentaries. That rings very true, since the director has never done a straight-up true crime drama. Likely, he'll give it his trademark flair by mashing up other genres and styles.

Tarantino's most recent movie was 2015's "The Hateful Eight."
