'Snowpiercer' TV Series Gets Greenlight From TNT

An Evening Honoring Louis Vuitton And Nicolas Ghesquiere"Snowpiercer" is moving from the big screen to the small screen.

TNT has officially ordered 10 episodes of the series based on Bong Joon Ho's 2013 apocalyptic sci-fi film. The show will star Jennifer Connelly, "Hamilton" alum Daveed Diggs, Alison Wright ("The Americans"), and Robin Weigert ("Big Little Lies").

Ho based his movie on a graphic novel by Jacques Lob. It was set in a future when climate change had transformed the world into a frozen tundra and the last remaining humans lived aboard a high-speed train traveling around the globe. The lower classes lived in grim conditions in the back of the train, while richer citizens enjoyed luxury in the front. Chris Evans played a man who ignites a rebellion, while Tilda Swinton was the eccentric aide to the train's engineer.

"Science fiction is the perfect genre to examine issues of race, class, gender and natural resources with thought-provoking and exciting storytelling. Snowpiercer will explore those relevant issues while embarking on a wild, action-filled ride," said TNT executive vice president for original programming Sarah Aubrey.

With the show set seven years after the ice age begins, it seems like the series will be a prequel to the movie.

TNT has yet to set a premiere date.
