Ellen Page Says 'F*** That' After Queen Elizabeth II Commends Anti-LGBTQ Politician

Halifax-born actress Ellen Page had some choice words for Queen Elizabeth II after Her Royal Highness honoured a Northern Ireland politician who has made offensive comments about LGBT people.

The star of "Juno" and "Inception" tweeted "F*** That" on Monday in response to a Vice story about the Queen's decision to hand an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) to Maurice Mills, an alderman for the town of Ballymena, for "services to local government."

Mills, a born-again Christian, was last year quoted by The Guardian saying the following about Hurricane Katrina: "The media failed to report that the hurricane occurred just two days prior to the annual homosexual event called the Southern Decadence festival which the previous year had attracted an estimated 125,000 people."

The celebration is billed as the "largest gay event in New Orleans."

Mills was called upon to apologize for the comments in 2006, but he never retracted them, nor did the Democratic Unionist Party, to which he belongs, The Belfast Telegraph reported.

"If I were to apologize for my comments then God would have to apologize," Mills said at the time.

The Guardian also quoted Mills saying the following, of the AIDS epidemic in Africa: "This abominable and filthy practice of sodomy has resulted in the great continent of Africa being riddled with AIDS."

A Change.org petition is calling on the U.K.'s Honours Forfeiture Committee to retract Mills' honour.

As of Tuesday night, the petition had almost 700 supporters, and was seeking just over 300 more.
