Long before the McConnaissance, in 1993, Matthew McConaughey was just a film student at the University of Texas at Austin looking for a break. He got one from an unknown director named Richard Linklater, who was making a little movie about high school kids.
Well, that little movie, "Dazed and Confused," became an iconic cult classic. And some 20 years later, the actor who played an affable stoner went on to win a Best Actor Oscar, and Linklater is poised to rake in Oscars for his much-lauded film "Boyhood."
A new Criterion Collection release of "Dazed and Confused" has unveiled McConaughey's audition video for the film, and it's a gem! Even in the stilted surroundings of an audition, McConaughey's star quality shines through:
