The "Fifty Shades of Grey" sequel just got a major dose of star power: Oscar winner Kim Basinger has reportedly joined the flick in a steamy new role.
According to Variety, Basinger is poised to join the cast of "Fifty Shades Darker," where she will play the high-profile role of Elena Lincoln, Christian Grey's business partner -- who also happens to be his former flame, too. Basinger's character, who was briefly referenced in the first flick, is due for a major reveal in the follow-up, per Variety.
The sequel and the third installment in the trilogy, "Fifty Shades Freed," are set to shoot back-to-back beginning this spring. Director James Foley is taking the reins from previous helmer Sam Taylor-Johnson, who departed the franchise after reportedly clashing with E.L. James, the author behind the bestselling "Fifty Shades" book series. James's husband, Niall Leonard, is serving as screenwriter this time around.
Stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are set to reprise their lead roles as Ana and Christian. Other returning cast members include Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford, and Max Martini.
"Fifty Shades Darker" is due for release on February 10, 2017.
