New on DVD and Blu-ray

"Goosebumps"
Jack Black plays author R.L. Stine in this monster family hit, which arrives on Blu-ray and DVD January 26. The "spook-tacular" special features include an alternate opening and ending, deleted scenes, a blooper reel, and a casting gallery. There are also two new featurettes -- "Beginners Guide to Surviving a Goosebumps Creature" and "Strange Things are Happening...On-Set" -- with actors Dylan Minette and Ryan Lee. Blu-ray exclusives include "All About Slappy" and a "Creaturefied!" featurette with makeup FX artist Steve Prouty demonstrating how to become your favorite Goosebumps creature.

"Chi-Raq"
Spike Lee's clever modern-day adaptation of the Greek play "Lysistrata" comes out on DVD and Blu-ray January 26. After the murder of a child by a stray bullet, a group of women in Chicago's Southside fight back in a unique way -- abstaining from sex until their men agree to end the senseless cycle of violence. Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Teyonah Parris, Jennifer Hudson, Steve Harris, Harry Lennix, D.B. Sweeney, and Angela Bassett star in the drama. The home release includes "The Making of Chi-Raq" featurette, deleted scenes, extended scenes, and a music video for "We Gotta Do Better" from Kevon Carter.

"Burnt"
Bradley Cooper plays a bad boy chef opposite Sienna Miller in this dramedy about food, love, and second chances. The DVD and Blu-ray include feature commentary with director John Wells and executive chef consultant Marcus Wareing; deleted scenes; and the featurettes "Breakfast of Champs," "Drugging the Food Critic," "Thanks for Dining at the Langham," "Helene's Ex," "Cooking at Helene's," and "Burnt: In the Kitchen with Bradley Cooper."

"unREAL" Season 1
Lifetime's no-holds-barred "Bachelor"-esque scripted series peeks behind the curtain to show how reality TV shows are really made. Shiri Appleby and Constance Zimmer star as the morally questionable producers of the dating show "Everlasting," with Freddie Stroma as the in-over-his-head bachelor who is meant to find true love -- or at least truly big ratings. The DVD release, out January 26, includes a dozen detailed behind-the-scenes featurettes.

New on Netflix
It's the end of the month, and that tends to be a slower time for Netflix releases. The good news is that a ton of new titles should be dropping on February 1. For now, why not honor the coldest time of the year by binge-watching the BBC/Discovery nature documentary series and the making-of feature. They are all available for streaming as of January 28.

"Crimson Peak"
Curl up in the dark with director Guillermo del Toro's intense Gothic thriller, which is out on Digital HD January 26. Mia Wasikowska stars as a sheltered young woman who heads to a remote English estate with an alluring aristocrat played by Tom Hiddleston. Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam co-star in the haunted house mystery, which arrives on Blu-ray/DVD February 9. The discs will include a bunch of special features, so keep that in mind.

"Truth"
Cate Blanchett, Robert Redford, Topher Grace, Elisabeth Moss, and Bruce Greenwood star in this independent drama based on producer Mary Mapes's memoir, "Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power." The true story follows Dan Rather (Robert Redford) and Mary Mapes's (Cate Blanchett) investigation into a sitting president's military service, and the ensuing scandal and fallout. "Truth" is out on Digital January 26 and Blu-ray/DVD February 2. Digital exclusives -- only available with iTunes Extras and Vudu Extras+ -- include deleted scenes and the featurette "The Reason For Being."

TV Worth Watching

"Grease: Live" (Sunday on FOX at 7 p.m.)
Hopelessly devote yourself to this live adaptation of the iconic musical, which will play out over three hours on January 31. "Dancing With the Stars" pro/judge Julianne Hough stars as Sandy, with Aaron Tveit as Danny, and Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo. It's live, so ... anything can happen.

"The Magicians" (Monday on Syfy at 9 p.m.)
Syfy's newest original series, based on the fantasy novels by Lev Grossman, starts January 25 with "Unauthorized Magic." In the premiere, best friends Quentin Coldwater (Jason Ralph) and Julia Wicker (Stella Maeve) are mysteriously recruited to take an entrance exam to Brakebills University, a secret institution for magical pedagogy.

"Outsiders" (Tuesday on WGN America at 9 p.m.)
David Morse stars in WGN America's third original series, following "Salem" and "Manhattan." "Outsiders" follows a struggle for power in the rugged hills of the Appalachia as the Farrell Clan -- a tight-knit family of renegades who have lived atop the rugged Shay Mountain for more than 200 years -- fight to defend their land and way of life from the town below.

"You, Me and the Apocalypse" (Thursday on NBC at 8 p.m.)
A priest, a convict, and a bank manager come together at the end of the world in this British-American sci-fi dramedy about the last days of mankind. Rob Lowe stars as rebellious, foul-mouthed priest Father Jude. Jenna Fischer plays Rhonda, a mild-mannered librarian sent to maximum security prison for a crime she didn't commit. Megan Mullally plays Leanne, an unhinged white supremacist that Rhonda unwillingly befriends. Joel Fry, Paterson Joseph, Pauline Quirke, and Kyle Stoller co-star.
