What's New on Netflix, TV, Digital, and DVD/Blu-ray This Week: February 22-28

New on DVD and Blu-ray

"Spotlight"
Not-so-bold prediction: "Spotlight" will win Best Picture at the Oscars this Sunday. Maybe. Maybe not. The story of the Boston Globe reporters who exposed widespread child abuse by Catholic priests is a frontrunner to win the top honor. Whether it does win or not, it's out on Blu-ray and DVD on February 23. The discs include "Uncovering the Truth: A Spotlight Team Roundtable," with the real-life Spotlight team reuniting 14 years later for a roundtable discussion about the challenges they faced, and how the shocking story continues to impact the world. You can also watch the bonus featurettes "Spotlight: A Look Inside" and "The State of Journalism."

"The Good Dinosaur"
What if dinosaurs never became extinct and lived at the same time as humans? Disney/Pixar shows what could've happened in this heartwarming adventure, which arrives on Blu-ray, Digital HD, DVD, and Disney Movies Anywhere on February 23. The home releases come with tons of special features, including "Sanjay's Super Team" for all versions. The Blu-ray and Digital also include a dozen other features, including commentary, deleted scenes, and several fun featurettes. Here's a taste:

"Fargo" Season 2
Season 1 was great, and Season 2 (out February 23) was even better. Head back to 1979 Minnesota with Patrick Wilson's young Lou Solverson (played by Keith Carradine in Season 1) as he attempts to solve multiple murders with unexpected connections. The stellar cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Jean Smart, and Ted Danson, and their story is definitely worth a marathon viewing session.

"Room"
Brie Larson is *thisclose* to a lock for Best Actress for her role as Ma in this heartwarming/heartbreaking drama, out on Digital HD this week and on disc March 1. This is mostly a two-person story, following Ma, who was abducted as a teen, and Jack (Jacob Tremblay, winner of ALL hearts) the 5-year-old son she bore while trapped in a shed the two just call "Room." It's not a spoiler to say they escape, since that's a big part of the story, but it's not the ending, it's just the beginning, as Ma (who does have her own name) tries to readjust to life in the real world and Jack struggles to understand anything outside Room.

"Victor Frankenstein"
James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe could do anything and we'd be 100 percent down for it, whether it's the best movie of the year or not. This horror film didn't make many top 10 lists, but the thriller follows scientist of legend Victor Frankenstein (McAvoy) and his brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Radcliffe) as they try to cope with a well-intentioned but monstrous experiment gone wrong. It's out on Digital HD on February 23, with the discs coming March 8. The Digital comes with deleted scenes, "The Making of Victor Frankenstein," galleries, and the theatrical trailer.

"In the Heart of the Sea"
Chris Hemsworth stars in this 1820-set historical drama, which inspired author Herman Melville to write that whale of a tale, "Moby-Dick." Ron Howard directed the Essex's harrowing true story of storms, starvation, despair, and hope, and it's out n Digital February 23. The DVD and Blu-ray arrive March 8.

"Day Out of Days"
Alexia Landeau, Melanie Griffith, Cheyenne Jackson, Eddie Izzard, Bellamy Young, and Vincent Kartheiser star in this story of feminism, ageism, and staying relevant in Hollywood. Directed by Zoe R. Cassavetes (daughter of John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands), "Day Out of Days" arrives on Digital HD/VOD on February 23. Landeau plays Mia Roarke, a 40-year-old actress who faces the reality of an industry that no longer wants her around. Struggling to recapture relevance in the youth-obsessed industry, Mia is forced to confront her situation and determine what her next role in life will be.

"Fuller House" (Netflix Original)
It's time to welcome the Tanners home! Stream Season 1 of this "Full House" revival on February 26. The story focuses on Candace Cameron Bure's D.J. Tanner, who is now a single mom of three boys. Her sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and best friend Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) move in to help her out. Most of the original cast is back -- including Bob Saget, John Stamos, Dave Coulier, and Lori Loughlin -- but not the Olsen twins, although Michelle's absence will be explained.

"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny" (Netflix Original)
Way back in 2000, Ang Lee directed a movie called "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," which redefined the martial arts genre, including a woman's place in it. Now the sequel is about to be released in the U.S. on February 26. This film brings back Michelle Yeoh, and adds a bunch of new characters, including a new protégé for Yeoh's Yu Shu Lien. It also adds dialogue in English, for a broader audience.

"Theo Von" (Netflix Original)
Comedian Theo Von is the latest recipient of a Netflix special, which arrives February 26. Here's the synopsis: "Southern charmer Theo Von offers up a twisted take on his dating mishaps, meeting Brad Pitt, chasing down fugitive chimpanzees, and more."

TV Worth Watching

Academy Awards (Sunday on ABC at 8:30 p.m.)
Whoever wins -- besides Leo, who is a given, even if it's just so we can FINALLY stop hearing that it's "his time" -- this should be an interesting Oscars. Some celebs may be boycotting the show, but plenty of others signed up as presenters, and you know the nominees won't be missing it. It's possible the #OscarsSoWhite controversy will just help with ratings, since people will want to hear what host Chris Rock says, and they'll want to hear Leo's speech (and see Kate Winslet's tears of pride from the audience).

"The X-Files" (Monday on FOX at 8 p.m.)
We were only promised six episodes and -- somehow -- it's already that time. Whhhyyyyy? There's so much more to tell! At the very least, they should give us more monster-of-the-week stories, since they never go out of style. The February 22 episode, written by Chris Carter, is called "My Struggle II" -- a follow-up to Episode 1, "My Struggle." The struggle is real, kids. Here's the FOX synopsis: "The investigations that Mulder and Scully previously began with conspiracy theorist and web-TV show host Tad O'Malley (Joel McHale) seem to have awakened powerful enemies. A widespread panic begins as people all over the country suddenly start falling gravely ill, and Scully must look within to try and find a cure. Meanwhile, Mulder confronts the man whom he believes to be behind it all, but another figure from Mulder and Scully's past may prove to be the key to their salvation."

"Superstore" (Monday on NBC at 8 p.m.)
It's a shame this freshman half-hour comedy had its episode count lowered from 13 to 11, because it's better than a lot of the junk out there. We could use more of it, not less. Maybe there's just too much competition on Monday nights, but it's worth checking out this America Ferrera-led show about the employees of a Walmart-like store called Cloud 9. It's refreshing to follow likable characters in the kind of workplace that just naturally produces crazy stories. Episode 11, the Season 1 finale, is called "Labor," so it sounds like Cheyenne's baby may finally meet its crazy teen parents.
