The First 'Ghostbusters' Trailer Is Finally Here to Slime You
The first "Ghostbusters" trailer starts with a serious nod to 30 years ago, when four scientists saved New York. So it's not like they're completely ignoring that there was an original franchise. "This summer," the 2016 trailer teases, "a new team will answer the call." We're quickly introduced to the new four-person crew -- Melissa McCarthy as Abby Yates, Kristen Wiig as Erin Gilbert, Kate McKinnon as Jillian Holtzmann, and Leslie Jones as Patty Tolan -- with Kristen Wiig getting slimed by a ghost within the first 40 seconds.
This isn't your father's "Ghostbusters,"though, and not just because this crew has a hot male secretary played by Chris Hemsworth. We're told that someone is creating a device that amplifies paranormal activity. And, as McCarthy's character explains, "There's a bigger picture at hand here. These ghosts can possess the human form." We see McCarthy get slimed, then go full Linda Blair, with Jones slapping the ghost right out of her.
What we don't see in the two-and-a-half minute first trailer is anyone else in the cast, beyond a flash of Hemsworth (and Slimer!). The focus is fully on introducing the four new leads.
