Margot Robbie Responds to 'Really Weird' Vanity Fair Profile

BRITAIN-ENTERTAINMENT-CINEMA-THE LEGEND OF TARZANVanity Fair caused a stir earlier this month when the magazine published a profile of Margot Robbie that many considered sexist. Now, the Aussie actress has responded to the uproar.

In an interview with Australian television program The Project, Robbie acknowledged that Rich Cohen's much-maligned profile was "really weird," reading more like a teenage boy salivating over a pinup than an interview with an up-and-coming actress. (Some sample lines from the piece: "She is 26 and beautiful, not in that otherworldly, catwalk way but in a minor knock-around key, a blue mood, a slow dance... She is tall but only with the help of certain shoes. She can be sexy and composed even while naked but only in character.")

Reflecting on her meeting with Cohen, it sounds like Robbie was just as skeeved out as the rest of the world.

"I remember thinking, 'That was a really odd interview. I don't know how that's going to come out,'" Robbie told The Project. "And then when I read it I was like, yeah, the tone of this is really weird. I don't really know what he's trying to get at or play at."

But according to the actress, she "didn't expect there was going to be an uproar," and sadly, says she feels immune to that kind of sexism.

"I've read far more offensive, far more sexist, insulting, derogatory, disgusting things on a daily basis," Robbie told The Project. "I don't know, maybe I'm desensitized to it now."

Here's hoping journalists covering Robbie's star-making summer can -- and will -- do better by the actress.
