Emma Thompson Reveals Donald Trump Once Asked Her Out

Emma ThompsonEmma Thompson just shared a story about the time Donald Trump rang her up out of the blue to ask her to dinner.

"You want to hear?" she asked Swedish talk show host Fredrik Skavlan and assembled guests yesterday. "This wasn't in the pre-interview plan," she joked before sharing the details.

About 20 years ago, she had just finalized her divorce from Kenneth Branagh and was filming "Primary Colors," in which she played a Hillary Clinton-esque First-Lady-to-be opposite John Travolta's Bill Clinton-inspired Southern Presidential candidate.

The phone rang in her trailer and when she answered it -- and here Thompson launches into an American accent -- she was greeted with, "Hi, it's Donald Trump here." At a loss, she responded, "Really? Can I help you?"

He went on, "'Yeah, I wondered if I could offer you some accommodation in one of my Trump Towers. They're really comfortable."

Thompson said she was confused about why he was offering her lodging, so he explained, "Well, I think we would get on very well, maybe have dinner sometime,'" Thompson recalls him saying.

"I didn't know what to do with myself," Thompson laughed. "I just said, 'I'll get back to you,'" which, of course, she never did.

But she has a few regrets she never took up the current POTUS on that dinner invitation: "I wish I had. Think of the stories!"

"You could be the First Lady," Skavlan joked.

In 1998, Trump had just announced his split from second wife Marla Maples, per The Washington Post. He married third wife Melania in 2005.

Thompson has been married to her "Sense and Sensibility" costar Greg Wise since 2003. She currently costars in "Beauty and the Beast" as Mrs. Potts.
