'Modern Family' Stars Get 'Significant Raises' With Season 9-10 Pickup

While other TV shows are getting dumped after one season (lookin' at you, "Timeless") ABC is staying faithful to "Modern Family" into a 10th season -- at least -- with more $$$ to boot.

ABC has renewed the Emmy-winning series for 44 episodes, 22 per season, for Season 9 and Season 10. Season 8 is currently airing, and will close out its 22 episodes on May 17.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 10 main stars of "Modern Family" all closed new contracts with "significant raises" to return for the next (maybe last, maybe not) two seasons.

Here's more from THR on the money front:

"Sources say each star has scored a raise to remain with the comedy from showrunners [Steve] Levitan and Christopher Lloyd and producers 20th Century Fox Television. Securing raises are the six primary stars — Sofia Vergara (Gloria), Julie Bowen (Claire), Ty Burrell (Phil), Eric Stonestreet (Cameron), Jessie Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell) and Ed O'Neill (Jay) — as well as younger castmembers Rico Rodriguez (Manny), Nolan Gould (Luke), Sarah Hyland (Haley) and Ariel Winter (Alex).

[...] Season eight of the comedy, which wrapped production in February without new deals for the stars, saw the cast making roughly $350,000 per episode as well as a portion of the show's profits. The stars are said to have landed significant raises — though their take-home remains far less than the cast of TV's No. 1 comedy, CBS' The Big Bang Theory. (The original stars of the Chuck Lorre comedy each get Friends-level $1 million per episode, though they recently took $100,000 per-episode cuts to help co-stars receive healthy raises. The CBS comedy from Warner Bros. Television earned a two-season renewal that will take it through what is expected to be its 12th and final run.)"

Deadline added more specifics:

"Simultaneously, producing studio 20th Century Fox TV has closed new two-year deals with the main sextet of actors on the show, Ed O'Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara. I hear they landed significant salary increases, from around $350,000 an episode for the current eighth season to about $500,000 an episode for Season 9 (they also have plus a little piece of the series' back end). I hear the studio will next negotiate new contracts with the series' younger cast."

So the "Modern Family" cast is making big bucks, but not "Big Bang" bucks.

It's possible there will be more negotiations if the show stays strong and ABC wants it to continue past Season 10. Then again, that might not be what the show creators want. As Levitan told THR not too long ago, "I'd like it to go 10 seasons. It seems like a nice, round number. But most importantly, I'd like to end strong. If that means ending it after nine, that's OK. If it means ending it after 10, even better."

The "Modern Family" Season 8 finale airs Wednesday, May 17 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
