New 'Handmaid's Tale' Season 2 Trailer Considers What Freedom Really Looks Like

"What will happen when I get out?" wonders Elisabeth Moss in a new trailer for "The Handmaid's Tale" Season 2.

Then she grimly adds, "There probably is no out. Gilead is within you."

The award-winning drama returns to continue the tale of June Osborne (Moss), the titular handmaid trapped in the oppressive dystopian society of Gilead. She seems to have a small ray of hope for freedom, after being mysteriously carted away in a van from Commander Waterford's (Joseph Fiennes) house. June was also pregnant, a state referenced by her lover, Nick (Max Mingella), which could either be a key to that freedom or an anchor around her neck.

The new trailer also shows glimpses at the Colonies, where Emily/Ofglen (Alexis Bledel) and Janine/Ofwarren (Madeline Brewer) have been sentenced to hard labor. We see refugees in Canada like Moira (Samira Wiley) and June's husband, Luke (O.T. Fagbenie), protesting. And interestingly, the trailer also shows the Commander and Mrs. Waterford (Yvonne Stahovski) worried for their own futures and possibly under the thumb of people in even higher positions.

"The Handmaid's Tale" returns April 25 on Hulu.
