When the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" trailer debuted, with its singular swagger and gonzo sense of humor, it became very clear that this was a very different type of Marvel movie. With the new, full-length trailer, just how different a movie it is becomes even more apparent. Quite frankly, if you aren't jumping around or clapping along or something by the end of this trailer, you might need to check your pulse. It's that good.
The new trailer introduces us to the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, a group of misfits tasked with defending the cosmos from an ancient evil, in much, much greater detail. There's Peter Quill aka Star Lord (Chris Pratt), a cunning thief and raconteur; Gamora (Zoe Saldana), a powerful, green-skinned warrior; Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), a monster on a quest for revenge; Groot (Vin Diesel), a sentient tree being; and Rocket (Bradley Cooper), a gun-toting raccoon with a insatiable thirst for extreme violence. So, yeah, it's not exactly "Thor: The Dark World."
In this new trailer we get to see some of the supporting cast, everyone from Glenn Close (that hair!) to Benicio del Toro to John C. Reilly and we get to hear Rocket and Groot actually speak ("I am Groot!"). The movie just looks so cool too, in particular Star Lord's ship the Milano (what a great design!) The fact that it's all set to Norman Greenbaum's iconic jam "Spirit in the Sky" is just the icing on the space-cake. We want this and we want it now.
"Guardians of the Galaxy" zooms into theaters on August 1st. If you need something to do while you wait, please check out the first part of our "Guardians of the Galaxy" set visit report, this one with the Star Lord himself, Chris Pratt.
