People has a new cover story on the series, with the cast talking about the twins's absence and executive producer Bob Boyett relaying what each twin told him when rejecting the reunion:
"Ashley said, I have not been in front of a camera since I was 17 and I don't feel comfortable acting. Mary-Kate said, It would have to be me because Ash doesn't want to do it. But the timing is so bad for us."
It sounds like Mary-Kate doesn't have the same camera qualms, but the timing is bad because they are now designers of The Row and Elizabeth and James and they have a lot going on in the fashion world. And the series is basically using that as the in-show excuse for why we won't see their character Michelle Tanner, saying she's off in New York building her fashion empire.
Dave Coulier (Uncle Joey) told People he also understands that the now 29-year-old twins may not share the same memories and sentiments as the older cast members, since "they were babies" during the 1987-1995 "Full House" run.
Interestingly enough, the producers apparently reached out to the twins's younger sister, thriving actress Elizabeth Olsen, to see if she'd want to take on the role of Michelle. As you might expect, the "Avengers" star was not interested. Here's what John Stamos told SiriusXM (via Screen Crush):
"We actually went to ... I don't think this has been talked about. I didn't do it, I think [executive producer] Jeff Franklin did. I said, 'Call the sister [Elizabeth Olsen]. Ask her.' We talked to her agent and her agent was like, 'Come on, she's not going to do that.' But we did call her agent.
They must've been pretty desperate to make that call. However the Olsens feel, many fans still have fond memories of the original series and are excited to see the revival, Michelle be darned. Will you miss her?
