Chris Evans Insists 'Captain America: Civil War' Is Not Another 'Avengers' Movie

Based on the trailers, you might think "Captain America: Civil War" is really just "The Avengers: Civil War." The preview footage looks awesome, but it has focused so much on Team Cap vs Team Tony that it looks like this is a movie about the Avengers in marital counseling, not a solo film for Steve Rogers.

addressed the Avengers question with Disney's twenty-three magazine. "Even though there are a lot characters, the focus is on Steve and his struggle. Especially his struggle with Tony Stark," Chris said (via Yahoo Movies). "It's exciting to see a guy who's as optimistic and as selfless as Steve be met with letdown, betrayal, frustration, and selfishness. There are events and people in his life that test him — that challenge him and force him to reevaluate who he is and what he wants out of life." Sounds like we'll be seeing some intriguing new layers to Cap, which is good, since even Captain America can't always be flawless.

Marvel's Kevin Feige told the Disney magazine there have been breadcrumbs in the past films leading to this showdown between Steve and Tony Stark. "We've seen it coming," he said. The clues were there. When you watch the other films you see how Captain America and Iron Man fight the bad guys together, back-to-back, but they have differences. And there is something that happens in the world that divides them."

Co-director Joe Russo added that the twists and turns in "Civil War" are character-based, as opposed to the plot-based twists of "Winter Soldier." The Russos previously said "Civil War" is like "a psychological thriller," but a good portion of the movie is "funnier than Winter Soldier." So they are trying hard to make any comparisons be to "Winter Soldier," rather than past "Avengers" films. Still ... even Spider-Man will be in "Civil War," so is it really about Steve?

"Captain America" will be released May 6, 2016.
