CBS confirmed this week that this season of "The Good Wife" would be the show's last, but for fans not ready to say goodbye, there may be some good news: A spinoff could be in the works.
There's nothing official happening just yet, cautioned creators Robert and Michelle King, though when speaking with reporters on Monday, the producers said that they'd definitely be open to the idea of creating a new show centered around peripheral players from the existing "Good Wife" universe.
"At this point, nothing's off the table," Michelle King said when asked about a potential spinoff. "Sure, maybe, we're not saying no to anything."
"What would be fun is to find a way to spin off a [cast member] that wasn't at the center, who we wish we had more time with," added Robert King. "The show always centered around the Alicia character. What's appealing would be pursuing a different ensemble."
And if a spinoff does develop, it may happen sooner rather than later: Robert King noted that the show's existing "infrastructure in New York" -- a.k.a. where they currently shoot the series -- would certainly lend itself well to a spinoff, using the same sets and production crews. "It would be great not to lose that," he told reporters.
So keep your fingers crossed, folks, and stay tuned.
"The Good Wife" airs its series finale on May 8.
