The series was created by John Ridley (an Oscar winner for "12 Years a Slave") and tackled such tough issues as race, class, sexual assault, and gender. Besides King, the cast included Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, and Lili Taylor, who played different parts in each of the three seasons. "Grey's Anatomy" alum Sandra Oh joined the cast for the third season as social worker Abby Tanaka.
Sadly, the series was never a ratings winner.
It's not to be confused with the similarly named anthology series "American Crime Story" on FX, which tackled the OJ Simpson trial in its first season.
