Katy Perry Named First Judge For 'American Idol' Revival

102.7 KIIS FM's 2017 Wango Tango - ShowBaby, the new "American Idol" has landed a firework.

ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey announced today that Katy Perry will serve as one of the judges on the network's reboot of "American Idol."

Rumors floated over the weekend that the singer would join the "Idol" revival, but she was coy about it on an appearance this morning on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show.

Perry revealed she's releasing a new album, "Witness," next month and touring this fall. "American Idol" is set to debut midseason on ABC.

"I am honored and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the 'American Idol' tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories," Perry said in a statement. "I'm always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough – from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music."

ABC has been working hard to attract big names as judges, just like Fox did at the end of the show's life on that network.

"We are thrilled to be ushering in this new era of 'American Idol' with Katy leading the charge," Dungey said. "Her incredible accolades speak for themselves. We are so lucky to have this strong and talented woman help inspire and guide the next crop of artists as they pursue their dreams."
