'The Exorcist' Fans Rejoice After Fox's 'Surprise' Season 2 Renewal

Hallelujah! The power of Christ compelled Fox to order a second season of "The Exorcist," despite some prognosticators being pretty certain the show would not return. Take that, renewal heathens!

Entertainment Weekly admitted they had "The Exorcist" on their dead list because Fox didn't order more episodes after the short initial order of 10. Plus,"The Exorcist" had relatively low ratings (averaging 3.2 million viewers and a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49) but not that low when compared to some other shows, especially for a Friday night. As EW wrote, "In a surprise move, the Friday night horror series that was seemingly left for dead last winter will return for another round."

Most fans weren't surprised by the move, though, just relieved and grateful:

You have to credit The Exorcist Congregation for stepping up to save the series -- based on the 1973 classic of the same name, starring Alfonso Herrera, Ben Daniels, Hannah Kasulka, Brianne Howey, Alan Ruck, and Geena Davis. "The Exorcist" fans launched campaigns to keep the show on Fox's radar, including #RenewTheExorcist, even going so far as to send red feathers to the network's offices in a reference to the series.

Here are details on what could be coming next in Season 2.

TheWrap gave a rundown of Fox's other renewal and cancellation updates, so far:

RENEWED: "Empire," "Star," "Gotham," "Lethal Weapon," "Lucifer, "Last Man on Earth," "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," "The Mick," "The Exorcist."

CANCELED: "Pitch," APB," "Son of Zorn," Making History," Sleepy Hollow," "Rosewood."

ORDERED: "The Resident," "Ghosted," "LA to Vegas."

Fox also announced a live musical production of "Rent."
