'Twin Peaks' Teaser: Miguel Ferrer Scene Is Bittersweet for Fans

Exciting as the return of "Twin Peaks" is, the latest teaser brought a sad reminder: Not all of the series' stars are still with us.

Miguel Ferrer appears as his FBI agent character Albert Rosenfield in the preview, released Thursday, in what turned out to be his final TV role. With the actor having died in January after battling throat cancer, the scene underscores the loss of a cast member who had been with the series from the beginning. Ferrer played Rosenfield for two seasons, plus appeared in the 1992 film "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me."

Heartbreaking as it is, we're glad the series was revived while the actor was still alive. Seeing Rosenfield and his FBI colleague Cole Gordon (David Lynch) together again was long overdue.

Many fans noted Ferrer's appearance and turned to Twitter as an outlet for their emotions.

Ferrer's death was one of a series of recent losses for "Twin Peaks" fans; it was followed by the deaths of Michael Parks in May and Warren Frost in February. Luckily, the revival is the perfect way to remember their lives and work. "Twin Peaks" returns May 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.
