John Krasinski Has a Great Idea for the 'Office' Reboot

John Krasinski still hasn't received a call from the higher-ups at NBC about that rumored reboot of "The Office." But while he waits, the actor-writer-director is busy dreaming up his ideal scenario for the new version of the series -- and it's a great nod to the show's original British inspiration.

In an interview with TheWrap, Krasinski lamented the fact that he had yet to hear from anyone involved in the reboot, despite his public pleas to be included.

"I would totally be interested!" the actor insisted to TheWrap, adding that he was "surprised" by the radio silence from the network.

Krasinski acknowledged that fans on the internet -- a pretty fervent bunch, based on their attention to even the smallest "Office"-associated detail -- have already been hard at work planning out the concept for a reboot. But the onetime Jim Halpert noted that his version would have a key similarity to the very first "Office," created by and starring Ricky Gervais.

" ... [T]he original British show, the best thing was they had a Christmas episode — it was a one-off," Krasinski said, referencing the UK show's famed Christmas specials, which ended the series. "I would love to do that. I think it would be a sort of 'Where Are They Now' kind of thing. That would be really fun."

That certainly does sound like the perfect concept, though it's also pretty similar to the U.S. show's 2013 series finale, which featured a Dunder Mifflin employee reunion to chat about the documentary-within-the-mockumentary. But checking in with characters like Jim and Pam (played by Jenna Fischer, who also hasn't been contacted yet) even further down the road? That sounds pretty enticing.

Of course, what little we do know about the reboot suggests that NBC is more interested in a full-on series rather than a standalone reunion show. Still, if the higher-ups could entice the show's biggest stars to return for at least one episode, that would be pretty awesome, too.

Like Krasinski, we'll also be eagerly awaiting more information.
