'Vampire Diaries' Alum Nina Dobrev Books TV Return in CBS Pilot

After fighting literal demons on CW series "The Vampire Diaries," Nina Dobrev will next tackle demons of the personal variety -- with a comedic twist.

Deadline reports that Dobrev is set to make her series regular return to television, booking the lead in a new CBS sitcom pilot. The show, entitled "Fam," centers around a woman named Clem (Dobrev), whose younger half-sister, Shannon (Odessa Adlon), comes to live with her and upends her life.

Here's the plot synopsis, per Deadline:

Dobrev's Clem is grounded, deeply funny, quick-witted and outspoken. She was a bit of a hot mess in her younger years but since then, she has worked hard to create the best version of herself and her life is on track. She is a real charmer who is ecstatic when Jay, the love of her life, proposes. In the "best version of herself" she claims that her own father is long dead, but the fact is that her dad, Freddy Banks, whom she hasn't seen in 10 years, is such an embarrassment that she has lied about his death. And when her half-sister, Shannon (Adlon), shows up unexpectedly, Clem's lie is about to become painfully obvious to everyone who trusted and believed her. And that lie just may end her relationship with Jay for good.

Dobrev previously lit up the small screen on "TVD," on which she starred for six seasons, and returned for the show's series finale early last year. Since then, she's lined up appearances in a bunch of movies, including last year's "Flatliners" remake and " XXX: Return of Xander Cage."

"Fam" also stars Brian Stokes Mitchell and Sheryl Lee Ralph, who are playing Jay's parents. No word yet on who's playing Jay.
