The Ginger Prince and the "Suits" actress got married early Saturday morning -- very early for North American viewers -- and their nuptials played out across 15 channels.
All told, Nielsen reports 29.2 million people in the U.S. watched the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. But that only counts home viewing and not streaming. So the real total number of viewers is much higher -- well above 30 million.
Prince William and Kate Middleton's 2011 wedding started a bit earlier in the morning, for us, and was held on a weekday. It averaged 22.8 million U.S. viewers.
It makes sense for Harry & Meghan to get more viewers over here, since Meghan is herself American. In the U.K., ratings were higher for William & Kate's wedding, which averaged 24 million viewers to the 18 million for Harry & Meghan.
In terms of U.S. viewing, according to CNN, "between 6 and 9 a.m. ET -- including the arrivals and the procession afterward -- NBC averaged 6.4 million viewers, ABC averaged 6.3 million, and CBS had 4.8 million. On cable, Fox News had 1.9 million, CNN had 1.8 million and MSNBC had 1 million viewers."
