Here Are All the HBO Shows Coming to Amazon Prime

It's not TV, it's HBO on Amazon Prime.

The premium cable network signed a game-changing deal with Amazon Prime, which allows the streaming service to host older HBO series like "The Wire" and "Deadwood." Past seasons of current shows, including "Boardwalk Empire" and "True Blood," will also be available to Amazon Prime customers. Future seasons of "Girls" and "Veep" will be added to the roster about three years after they air on HBO.

Some shows, like "Sex and the City" and "Entourage," aren't included due to other deals. "Game of Thrones" is also not part of it, which just began its fourth season. Plus, as HBO's crown jewel, it may never leave the confines of the channel and HBO Go.

It marks a big change for HBO, which hadn't licensed its shows to a streaming service -- that's why you haven't seen Tony Soprano on Netflix. And it's a huge win for Amazon Prime in its battle against Netflix.

Starting May 21, Amazon Prime users will be able to watch these HBO programs:

  • All seasons of revered classics such as "The Sopranos," "The Wire," "Deadwood," "Rome," and "Six Feet Under," and of recent favorites such as "Eastbound & Down," "Enlightened," and "Flight of the Conchords."

  • Epic miniseries, including "Angels in America," "Band of Brothers," "John Adams," "The Pacific," and "Parade's End."

  • Select seasons of current series such as "Boardwalk Empire," "Treme," and "True Blood."

  • Hit original movies like "Game Change," "Too Big To Fail," and "You Don't Know Jack."

  • Pedigreed documentaries including the "Autopsy" and "Iceman" series, "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib," and "When the Levees Broke."

  • Hilarious original comedy specials from Lewis Black, Ellen DeGeneres, Louis CK and Bill Maher.

  • The multi-year deal will bring additional seasons of the current series named above, along with early seasons of other series like "Girls," "The Newsroom," and "Veep" to Prime members over the life of the deal.
