If Patrick Dempsey knows why his character was killed off on "Grey's Anatomy," he isn't talking -- and that includes speculating about the identity of the actor showrunner Shonda Rhimes says she killed off on the show for personal reasons.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dempsey was asked point blank if he thought that Rhimes was talking about him when she told Larry Wilmore in November that she axed an actor because she didn't like him (or her). Like Rhimes, Dempsey did a good job of (mostly) dodging the question, though he did tell EW that he thought his former boss said what she did because "she loves being provocative," and that it "gets people talking about all the stuff that she's doing" -- though the actor added that that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
"She's an amazing woman who is incredibly productive," Dempsey said of Rhimes. "She's promoting a book. She's promoting three shows. And she's emerging as the star of all of these things. I think she knows how to deal with the media and what she needs to say to get the response that she's looking for. She's very savvy."
While the actor's words are not really the response we were looking for, they do indicate that Dempsey is pretty over talking about "Grey's" (the rest of his EW interview focused on his passion for racing and his upcoming role in the threequel "Bridget Jones's Baby"). We may never definitively learn what happened, but both Rhimes and Dempsey's non-answer answers give us a pretty good indication of the truth (or some version of it, anyway).
