What's New on TV, Netflix, Digital, and DVD/Blu-ray This Week: December 21-27

At a loss for what to watch this week? From new DVDs and Blu-rays, to what's streaming on Netflix, we've got you covered.

New Video on Demand, Rental Streaming, and Digital Only

"The Martian"
You can bring Matt Damon home -- at least through digital download -- just in time to meet your family for the holidays. "The Martian," based on the best-selling novel by Andy Weir, is arriving on Digital HD on December 22, with the Blu-ray and DVD releases to follow on January 12. The 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray and Digital HD releases have more than 90 minutes of special features, including an exclusive in-world retrospective starring Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Sean Bean, covering the "true" story behind the daring rescue seven years after the events of the film. There are also two making-of documentaries, a gag reel, and more.

"Hotel Transylvania 2"
It would be nice to be able to wrap this monster box-office hit and put it under the tree in time for Christmas, but it's not out on disc until January 12. But you can still watch it with the kids via digital download starting December 22. The adorable "Hotel Transylvania" sequel reunites the "Drac's Pack" as they try to put Mavis and Johnny's son Dennis through a "monster-in-training" boot camp to bring out his vampire side.

"Everest"
"Everest" documents the awe-(and terror)inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged by a major snowstorm as they attempt to reach the summit of the world's highest mountain. The 2015 survival film -- inspired by true events -- stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley, Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, and Emily Watson. It's available on all major Digital HD platforms on December 22, with the on disc and On Demand releases coming January 19.

"Sicario"
Emily Blunt and Benicio Del Toro star in this critically lauded thinking person's action thriller. "Sicario" is set on the border between the U.S. and Mexico, following an idealistic FBI agent (Blunt) called in to aid the escalating war on drugs. It's doing the digital drop this week with the discs to follow on January 5. The Blu-ray and Digital HD releases include behind-the-scenes interviews with Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro; a look at the visual design of the film with director Denis Villeneuve; a feature on the creation of the score with Oscar-nominated composer Jóhann Jóhannsson; and a discussion about writer Taylor Sheridan's research for the script.
