All hail, Han Solo! Thanks to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Harrison Ford is now the highest-grossing actor in U.S. box office history. And the guy's 73! Talk about getting better with age. This is one of those lists that rewards longevity, since the more blockbusters you make, the more you rise on the list.
If you check out the actor rankings at Box Office Mojo, it's still pretty close at the top, but Harrison is now sitting comfortably at No. 1, with a current (and rising) gross of $4.74 billion. Samuel L. Jackson (age 67) -- whose work in the "Star Wars" prequels, "Jurassic Park," and "The Avengers" films launched him to the top of the list -- was pushed down to No. 2 with a gross of $4.63 billion. However, Sam definitely has the potential to reclaim his throne, since he has a ton of new movies coming out and he tends to land roles in major blockbusters.
You can check out the full box office ranking, but here's a snapshot of the top names:
The list is for "actors" but they include actresses. It takes a while to find the top woman, though. It's Cameron Diaz at No. 17 with a box office gross of $3.03 billion, just behind Robert De Niro and Anthony Daniels but ahead of Matt Damon, Liam Neeson, and Will Smith. The next woman on the list is Cate Blanchett at No. 24.
Considering Harrison Ford is a living legend -- from Indiana Jones to Han Solo and all the smaller but worthy films in between -- we can't say we're mad that he gets to stand for another moment in the box office sun. Congrats, man!
