It's Official: Stephen Colbert Is the New 'Late Show' Host

Well, it's official: when David Letterman steps down as host of CBS's long running "The Late Show" in 2015, he will be replaced by a man whose entire persona is built around playing a character. That's right folks, Stephen Colbert will be the new host of "The Late Show." In case you already have your vuvuzela for the World Cup, now would be a good time to annoy the heck out of your neighbors.



The announcement was made by Leslie Moonves, the President and CEO of the CBS Corporation, and Nina Tessler, Chairman of CBS Entertainment, coming on the heels of the April 3^rd announcement by Letterman that he would step down in 2015. While many have been floated for the position, Colbert was always a favorite, especially considering that the move will be relatively seamless since CBS and Comedy Central, the current home to "The Colbert Report," are owned by the same company.



It'll be interesting to see how Colbert performs free of his "Colbert" persona. As "safe" a choice as it might seem, there's an air of unpredictability to the announcement as well, since we have no idea what a "straight" Colbert show will be like.
