New on DVD and Blu-ray

"The Revenant"
Leo's ready to come home with you this week. Leonardo DiCaprio had a bear of a time making this historical drama, but he won his first Oscar for it, and Alejandro Inarritu won his second in a row for directing. "The Revenant," which also picked up an Oscar for Cinematography, is finally out on DVD/Blu-ray on April 19. Blu-ray extras include "A World Unseen," a documentary of "The Revenant."

"The Lady in the Van"
Maggie Smith plays Miss Shepherd in this British dramedy based on the true story of an eccentric elderly woman who "temporarily" parks her van in Alan Bennett's driveway and proceeds to live there for 15 years. The critically acclaimed film, based on Bennett's memoir, has a 93 percent fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes. You can catch it on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD on April 19. The Blu-ray and DVD include "Playing The Lady: Maggie Smith as Miss Shepherd," "The Making of The Lady in the Van," a featurette on the visual effects, deleted scenes, and commentary with director Nicholas Hytner.

"And Then There Were None"
Lietime's adaptation of the renowned Agatha Christie mystery arrives on DVD/Blu-ray on April 19. Ten strangers -- played by Aidan Turner, Charles Dance, Anna Maxwell Martin, Sam Neill, Miranda Richardson, Douglas Booth, Maeve Dermody, Burn Gorman, Toby Stephens, and Noah Taylor -- are invited to a dinner party on an isolated island, then the guests start dying, one by one. Not a great night out! The two discs include the three-part series; plus a bonus behind-the-scenes featurette; a featurette about Agatha Christie; and an interview with writer Sarah Phelps.

"Veep" Season 4
Selina Meyer (Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus) unexpectedly became president in the hilarious fourth season of HBO's political satire. Will she stay POTUS in Season 5, which starts April 24, after "Game of Thrones" and "Silicon Valley"? We'll find out. Catch up on all the antics from Selina's staff -- including Emmy winner Tony Hale as Gary, and Hugh Laurie as superstar would-be-veep Tom James -- when Season 4 arrives on DVD/Blu-ray April 19.


TV Worth Watching

"Game of Thrones" Season 6 (Sunday on HBO at 9 p.m.)
OK, Jon Snow is dead. But will he STAY dead? Find out April 24 in the Season 6 premiere, "The Red Woman," which is said to be filled with shocks, even for hardcore fans who have been busy speculating about what will happen.

"The Night Manager" (Tuesday on AMC at 10 p.m.)
AMC isn't just here for "The Walking Dead" and "Breaking Bad" spinoffs (although it'll come up with a few more in a minute), it's also airing this six-part miniseries starting April 19. Tom Hiddleston stars as a former British soldier recruited by an intelligence operative (Olivia Colman) and tasked with infiltrating Whitehall and Washington, D.C. He tries to work his way into the inner circle of an arms dealer (Hugh Laurie), the dealer's girlfriend (Elizabeth Debicki), and an associate (Tom Hollander). It's based on the novel by John le Carré, but updated to current times.

"Containment" (Tuesday on The CW at 9 p.m.)
The CW is debuting a brand new series April 19, based on the Belgian TV series "Cordon." One of the executive producers is Julie Plec, co-creator of "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals," and she wrote this night's pilot episode, which was directed by David Nutter, who just picked up an Emmy for directing last year's "Game of Thrones" finale. What's "Containment" about? According to The CW, "When a mysterious and deadly epidemic breaks out in Atlanta, a vast urban quarantine is quickly enforced, forcing those stuck on the inside to fight for their lives while local and federal officials desperately search for a cure." (Like on "The Walking Dead"?)

"Time Traveling Bong" (Wednesday on Comedy Central at 10:30 p.m.)
Yas, queen! Ilana Glazer of "Broad City" (which will air a new episode right before this premiere) co-created and stars in this three episode miniseries, starting on April 20. (Perfect timing, no?) Illana is Sharee and Paul W. Downs plays her cousin Jeff. They discover a water bong that can be used to travel through time so, after visiting some points in the past -- during which said bong is destroyed -- they have to try and find a way to return to the present.


New on Netflix

"Minions"
The Minions are coming! Tell your kids they can stream the little yellow guys on Netflix, starting April 24.

"Catching The Sun"
This 2015 documentary on the global race to lead the clean energy movement will be available April 22. According to the official site, "Over the course of a solar jobs training program, Catching the Sun follows the hope and heartbreak of unemployed American workers seeking jobs in the solar industry. With countries like China investing in innovative technologies and capitalizing on this trillion-dollar opportunity, Catching the Sun tells the story of the global energy transition from the perspective of workers and entrepreneurs building solutions to income inequality and climate change with their own hands." The doc has a "must-see" endorsement from actor/activist Mark Ruffalo.

"Patton Oswalt: Talking for Clapping"
Patton Oswalt is the latest comedian to get a stand-up showcase on Netflix. Catch his special on April 22.


New Video on Demand, Rental Streaming, and Digital Only

"Deadbeat" (Hulu)
The third season of this supernatural Hulu comedy premieres on April 20, and yes they did it in honor of weed. Tyler Labine plays Kevin, a stoner slacker who happens to have the power to speak with ghosts, with Brandon T. Jackson as Kevin's only friend, and also a drug dealer. Cat Deeley plays Camomile, a famous medium, who doesn't actually have any real powers, with Lucy DeVito as Sue, Camomile's assistant.

"The Choice"
Nicholas Sparks's latest romantic swoon-fest -- starring Benjamin Walker, Teresa Palmer and Maggie Grace -- is available on Digital HD April 19 and Blu-ray/DVD on May 3. Special features include deleted scenes, audio commentary with director Ross Katz and Benamin Walker; Molly & Moby: Choice Dogs; and the featurettes, "Cinematic Choices: Making The Choice," "Choosing Home: Nicholas Sparks and North Carolina," and "Nicholas Sparks with..."

"A Royal Night Out"
This reverse Cinderella story, inspired by true events, is being released on Digital HD on April 19, two days before Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday. "A Royal Night Out" follows the celebration of the end of WWII in Europe, as Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret leave the confines of Buckingham Palace to venture out into London in an attempt to be "normal." The charming drama stars Emily Watson, Rupert Everett, Sarah Gadon, and and Bel Powley, whose role in this film earned her the Hamptons International Film Festival award for "Breakthrough Performer."

"Paradox"
Zoë Bell and Malik Yoba stars in this action/thriller, out in theaters April 25 and on VOD and iTunes April 19. A group of young scientists, working on a secret project that may allow them to travel ahead in time, test it by sending one of their own ahead one hour. He returns pleading with them to shut it down, explaining that within that hour, they will all die.
