Valderrama ("That '70s Show") will join the veteran procedural as a series regular, playing a mysterious new agent -- or at least, new to viewers (and yes, some of his coworkers). Here's the scoop from CBS:
Valderrama's character will emerge from a years-long deep cover assignment, with many of his NCIS colleagues unaware that he's still working there—or even alive! Once known as a grounded field agent, his dedication to job and country have left him an unpredictable, charismatic loose cannon.
In a statement, "NCIS" executive producer Gary Glasberg noted that the actor would bring "dramatic, physical, and comedic talents" to the "classic role" of the as-yet-unnamed character.
"Fans are going to see him like they've never seen him before," Glasberg added of Valderrama. "This is going to be fun. We're thrilled he's coming aboard."
Valderrama is stepping into the longrunning drama just as original star Michael Weatherly has departed, leaving a hole in the main cast. Based on Glasberg's statement, it sounds like Valderrama's new character is meant to fill the wisecracking DiNozzo's void; fans will have to wait until later this year to see if they like the replacement.
"NCIS" season 14 hits CBS sometime this fall.
