Now HBO's Twitter & Facebook Accounts Have Been Hacked

2017 Summer TCA Tour - Day 2A swarm of locusts is probably next. HBO's Twitter and Facebook accounts were hacked late Wednesday night, in addition to the many other recent HBO hacks, which are separate from the "Game of Thrones" episode leaks.

As sad as that is, people are most sad for a guy named Dylan, who replied to the HBO Twitter hack by announcing his wife left him. Can't make this stuff up.

Here's a tweet showing a hack from OurMine:

Wallenstein's tweet now has replies from people feeling worse for Dylan than HBO, with one writing, "I think you're burying the lede... what happened to Dylan and his wife?" Truth. Leak the rest of that story next.

More seriously, as Variety reports, "OurMine is well known for taking over Twitter accounts of a wide range of media accounts in recent years including Netflix, Marvel and Google." The HBO tweet is gone, and it doesn't look like there was any lasting damage, just a shot across the bow to let HBO's social media accounts know it's possible. It's scary, and violating, to know how vulnerable all of our information is out there.

An HBO spokesman told Deadline, "we are investigating" the social media incidents. Variety doesn't think this OurMine attack is coordinated with the hacker that has been leaking episodes of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and other shows to try and get money from HBO. And it's definitely separate from the internal leaks that led to HBO contractors across the world leaking "Game of Thrones" Season 7 episodes in advance.
