Louis C.K. loves a good surprise.
Whether it's a surprise stand-up show at a random comedy club, or an entire web series like "Horace and Pete," the comedian often springs new projects onto the world without advance notice. He's doing it again, this time with his first feature film since he directed "Pootie Tang" in 2001.
C.K. will debut "I Love You, Daddy" at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The 35mm black-and-white film — which he shot secretly in New York earlier this year — stars himself, Pamela Adlon, Chloe Grace Moretz, John Malkovich, Helen Hunt, Rose Byrne, and Charlie Day.
C.K. plays Glen Topher, a successful TV producer and writer. Moretz is his daughter, China.
While the comedian has directed episodes of "Louie" and "Horace and Pete," he had yet to return to feature films after "Pootie Tang."
"That experience was very painful, I was sucking at making the movie and got fired off of it, and they put my name on it anyway," C.K. said in 2012. "But failing at 'Pootie Tan'g is one of the reasons for why ["Louie"] is good. The army of failures I've had are the reasons that I'm good at what I'm doing now."
