Trevor Noah will continue hosting "The Daily Show" through at least 2022: The host's contract was renewed by Comedy Central for an additional five years.
"I'm thrilled to be continuing this amazing journey with both fans of 'The Daily Show' and Comedy Central," Noah said in a statement. "It's really exciting to renew this contract for either five more years or until Kim Jong Un annihilates us all — whichever one comes first."
As Vulture notes, the comedian's contract extension coincides with a significant upswing in "Daily Show" viewership, with its audience increasing by 14 percent compared to last season. And that's nothing compared to how well the show is doing online, with its viral content receiving a whopping 50 percent bump in views versus last year.
That's great news for Noah, whose tenure behind the desk once occupied by Jon Stewart got off to a rocky start back in September 2015, with mixed reviews and fleeing viewers. Though it took some time for the host to settle into a groove (not to mention try to fill the gaping void left by his larger than life predecessor), it seems Comedy Central is confident that Noah the right man for the job for the foreseeable future.
"Trevor makes us look smart on a daily basis, and for that we're grateful," said Comedy Central president Kent Alterman in a statement.
