'Suicide Squad 2' May Shoot Next Year

Suicide SquadUh, yay? "Suicide Squad 2" may begin shooting as early as next year, according to Joel Kinnaman, who played soldier Rick Flag in the critically drubbed WB flick. Yes, they're making a sequel, since the first film made more than $745 million in global box office.

While talking to THR about "House of Cards," Kinnaman said, "As far as I know they're writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change." As to whether we'll see more of his character, he said, "I think I'll definitely come back for it." But please, no more Enchantress! Thanks!

A director hasn't been selected yet, although Mel Gibson was talking to Warner Bros. about the job earlier this year. Other potential candidates: Ruben Fleischer ("Zombieland") and Jonathan Levine ("Warm Bodies").

Kinnaman said, "Ultimately, I'd love for David Ayer to direct it, but if he doesn't want to direct it then someone who is great with character and that's able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well."

Ayer will instead be working on the "Suicide Squad" spinoff "Gotham City Sirens," with Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn.
