George R.R. Martin's 'Nightflyers' Getting Made Into Syfy Pilot

67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Press RoomSpace is dark and full of terrors! Syfy has ordered a pilot based on "Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin's novella "Nightflyers."

The network revealed in May it was developing the novella into a possible series and Martin himself noted it would be base on the 1987 film adaptation. Now the project has gotten the greenlight to shoot a pilot off of a script by Jeff Buhler. Martin will not be a producer or consultant on the series.

The space drama is set on a ship named the Nightflyer. Eight scientists and a telepath travel to the edge of the solar system in hope of contacting alien life. In the novella, they are eliminated one by one, and everyone begins to turn on each other as they scramble to survive.

"We are looking forward to diving deeper into George R.R. Martin's chilling world of 'Nightflyers,'" said Bill McGoldrick, executive vice president of scripted development for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. "The script that Jeff delivered encapsulates this classic sci-fi horror story and adapts it to a platform where we can truly explore the depths of madness."
