Alden Ehrenreich Reportedly the First to 'Voice Concerns' About Direction of Han Solo Movie

Alden EhrenreichIf you're looking for someone to blame in the ousting of original Han Solo movie directing team Phil Lord and Chris Miller, it's not just producer Kathleen Kennedy and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan.

That is, according to new reports that the original person to voice concerns about the direction and tone of the film was none other than lead actor Alden Ehrenreich, who's taking his duties as young Han Solo very seriously.

According to StarWarsnewsnet, "Ehrenreich had concerns with the production as filming progressed. He started to worry that Lord & Miller's screwball comedy angle was starting to interfere with what the character of Han Solo is really about –- even if this was a younger, more reckless take on the character than the one we met in that cantina on Tatooine. One source described it as being oddly comparable to Jim Carrey's performance in 'Ace Ventura' at times. Ehrenreich let his concerns be known to one of the producers, who then told Kennedy about it, which led to her decision to look over the existing footage."

Apparently, old guard "Star Wars" figures Kennedy and Kasdan "really, really like Ehrenreich's take on Han," but objected to some of the scenes as being too "zany."

Lord and Miller have yet to publicly comment on the whole situation, but a telling tweet from Lord might indicate when things started to get tense on set as, we assume, the directing duo was asked to tone things down.

As you may have heard, the much-less zany Ron Howard is now taking over directing duties.

When talking about his original audition for the role, Ehrenreich (who was hired after Lord and Miller) told Interview," I had an audition process that went on for a long time, and I got to spend a lot of time with the guys who are directing the film. Getting to be around them and being around the world a little bit has been the main experience so far..."

As far as playing Han Solo, he said it was a dream come true: "I remember pretending to be the characters in the movies when I was a little kid. The last three movies I've done, I played a cowboy, then I played a soldier, and now I play Han Solo. So the little kid in me is having a real joyride."

Earlier this month, Donald Glover, who plays Lando Calrissian, seemed to be enjoying the artistic freedom on the set, saying, "This is probably one of my favorite experiences ever. For working under, like, a huge conglomerate, it's actually been quite an enjoyable, artistic thing. I get to play him in a way that I think is honest and true and cool."

Despite the shake-up, the movie still has a release date of May 25, 2018.
