Alexis Bledel Promoted to Series Regular for 'The Handmaid's Tale' Season 2

THE HANDMAID'S TALE -- "Offred" - Episode 101 - Offred, one the few fertile women known as Handmaids in the oppressive Republic of Gilead, struggles to survive as a reproductive surrogate for a powerful Commander and his resentful wife. Alexis Bledel was a guest star in "The Handmaid's Tale" Season 1, appearing in five episodes as Ofglen, who befriends Elisabeth Moss's main character, Offred.

Hulu just revealed that Bledel will return as a series regular in Season 2, which ... is that a spoiler? Ofglen's fate was left up in the air in Season 1, but if she's coming back as a series regular, that suggests good things.

The series is adapted from Margaret Atwood's dystopian classic, and it sounds like Season 2 will continue to find more inspiration from the book. "There's so many things that we haven't explored yet from the book — so many lines, you know?" Elisabeth Moss told EW. "So much text that we haven't gotten a chance to even say."

According to Hulu, "The Handmaid's Tale" had its most-viewed premiere of any series in its first week. Season 2 will go into production this fall and premiere 13 episodes on Hulu sometime in 2018.

Someone will inevitably wonder what this might mean for more "Gilmore Girls" episodes on Netflix, and it may not mean much, since it doesn't sound like there's a lot of movement on that front right now.
