Heather Menzies-Urich, an actress best known for playing Louisa in "The Sound of Music," died Sunday night at the age of 68.
The widow of actor Robert Urich, she was recently diagnosed with cancer, according to her son Ryan Urich.
"She was an actress, a ballerina and loved living her life to the fullest," he said in a statement. "She was not in any pain but, nearly four weeks after her diagnosis of terminal brain cancer, she had enough and took her last breath on this earth at 7:22 pm."
Born in Toronto, Menzies-Urich was 15 when she was cast at Louisa von Trapp in 1965's classic musical "The Sound of Music."
Other film credits include "Hawaii," "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes," "Piranha," and Endangered Species." TV credits include "Dragnet," "Bonanza," "Marcus Welby M.D.," "The Bob Newhart Show," and "Logan's Run."
She married Robert Urich in 1975; he died in 2002. They leave behind three adopted chidlren: Ryan, Emily, and Allison.
Menzies-Urich's death comes less than a year after Charmian Carr, who played eldest von Trapp sibling Liesl.
