Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's 'A Star Is Born' Remake Pushed Back Five Months

It's going to be a later arrival than expected for Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's upcoming remake of Hollywood classic "A Star Is Born": The flick has been pushed from its planned May 2018 release date to October 2018.

There was no official reason given for the five-month delay, which swaps the film's original May 18, 2018 bow with the new choice of October 5, 2018. But Variety thinks it may be to better position the flick for an awards season push. Still, it's a puzzling move, especially since the movie's very first planned release date was slated for September 2018, before studio Warner Bros. shuffled the schedule and moved it up to May.

Whatever the reasoning behind the switcheroo, "A Star Is Born" is certainly expected to make a big splash, thanks to its impressive pedigree: It marks the major movie debut of Gaga -- who will be billed by her real name, Stefani Germanotta -- as well as the directorial debut of Cooper. It's also the third time the film will be rebooted: The original version debuted way back in 1937, starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March as an aspiring actress and aging film star, respectively, who embark on a romance as their careers spin in opposite trajectories. The film was remade in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason, and again in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, that time exploring the music industry.

Gaga and Cooper's version will also be music-centric, with the songstress playing Ally, an up-and-coming singer whose relationship with fading country legend Jackson Maine (Cooper) turns her into a superstar. Gaga wrote several original songs for the film.

"A Star Is Born" is now slated for release on October 5, 2018.
