Alfonso Cuaron Is Being Courted for 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'

alfonso cuaron fantastic beasts and where to find themAsk any die-hard "Harry Potter" fan (or bespectacled film nerd) what the best entry in the franchise is, and they will undoubtedly come back with the same response: the third film, Alfonso Cuaron's "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." It was bold, dark, and visually sophisticated, and set up the universe that the other best films in the franchise would follow down the line (like the last few that David Yates directed). Well, it looks like Cuaron might be coming back to the Potter-verse after winning his Best Director Oscar this year for "Gravity." Scoop-master Nikki Finke is reporting that he's in "deep talks" for 2016's spin-off film.

Cuaron is supposedly looking to tackle "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," a spin-off film set long before a young wizard with a lightning bolt scar attended Hogwart's. It's based, in part, on one of Harry's textbooks and will follow the book's young author, Newt Scamander. It's the first film in a planned trilogy, with author J.K. Rowling penning the new screenplays as well.

This could all be very, very exciting, especially with Cuaron's involvement. Warner Bros plans to release the film on November 18th, 2016.
